Today, more than ever before, there is no excuse for a ‘one size fits all’ approach to funerals. We are here to work with you in order to determine the type and style of funeral service you feel is most appropriate. We can offer any type of funeral service, and because of this there are many different cost options.

Funeral costs fall into two categories: our fees, and the fees we pay to third parties on your behalf, also known as disbursements

Our fees include collecting and looking after the person who has died until the time of the funeral, matters of administration, chapel visits, liaising with relevant third parties on your behalf, arranging printed Orders of Service, arranging music and/or visual tributes, and providing a Funeral Director and bearers to carry the coffin on the day of the funeral. As an independent family run company, it is always our intention that the person you meet to arrange the funeral will also be your funeral director on the day. Unless you choose the simplest type of funeral service we offer, the fee for our services will be payable on account after the funeral takes place.

Disbursements. Amongst the items included within disbursements could be: church fees, the crematorium fee or burial fees, doctors’ cremation certificate fees, minister/celebrant fees, newspaper announcements, organist fees, the cost of any flowers we order on your behalf, and sometimes even caterers.

Before a funeral takes place a fully itemised written estimate will be provided to cover all the costs that will apply in your particular circumstances. Should there be any additions or changes to this we will discuss them with you, prior to the funeral. Our final invoice will be sent after the funeral has taken place.

In addition to our standard prices, we have introduced some fixed price offerings that allow families the opportunity to say farewell to their loved ones in a dignified way while keeping costs to a minimum. We really do want to help so please email or speak to us if you are in any doubt.

Below are some examples of some of the types of funerals we offer.

Our Standard Fees

For a full list of our prices, and to enable us to give you an accurate quotation please call or email us one of our branches. As an independent family run company, we are pleased to offer help and advice without obligation.

Examples of current disbursements are as follows:

  • Cremation at Portchester Crematorium excluding organist £630
  • Cremation at The Oaks, Havant £875 or £695 prior to 10am
  • Cremation at Southampton Crematorium £825 or £615 prior to 10am or after 4pm
  • Cremation at Wessex Vale (Hedge End) including organist £945
  • Doctors’ cremation certificate fees £164
  • Celebrant or Ministers’ fees (these do vary from parish to parish) approximately £210

Not everyone wants to have a funeral service. For some they do not want the fuss, for others they do not want the expense of a full funeral service. Sometimes the person who has died may have left instructions that they do not want anyone to attend their funeral, or some families may prefer to separate the cremation or burial from the funeral service itself. Whatever the case, we can help.

In 2015 A H Freemantle pledged to support the Quaker Social Action Charity’s ‘Fair Funerals’ campaign.

We agree with the Charity’s view that it is often difficult to find clear, comparable information about what funerals really cost. That is why we believe it is so important for us to be clear about our pricing structure.

We appreciate that everyone’s requirements are different so if you are unsure please ring or email us with your questions.
